{"title":"Achillea","description":"\u003cp\u003eAchillea is a beautiful, tough perennial that has long been used in cool or dry climates as a flowering ornamental. The genus Achillea is named for the Greek hero of the Trojan War, Achilles, who according to legend, used this plant to treat battle wounds (He must have forgotten to put it on his heel, though).\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eWe have conducted trials in our Raleigh, NC, garden and found some Achillea selections that don't mind our southern hot and humid summers. Achillea plants produce flat clusters of tiny, colorful \u003ca title=\"flowers that attract butterflies\" href=\"..\/collections\/butterfly-attracting-plants\"\u003eflowers that attract butterflies\u003c\/a\u003e (called corymbs) and have a large visual impact when they bloom in midsummer. Achilleas are wonderful garden plants, and make great cut or dried flowers. In addition, the finely dissected leaves have a wonderful spicy fragrance. Achillea prefers full sun, and cannot tolerate wet sites or poorly drained soils but instead prefers lean soils that are slightly acidic.
