Most eupatorium we have trialed have proven to be amazingly adaptable to our climate. Many of the native Joe Pye Weed species (most notably Eupatorium purpureum and Eupatorium maculatum) thrive best in moist sites like bog gardens. Our native eupatorium species are prized in European gardens, but sadly used less often here in the US. How about helping us reverse this disturbing trend. In the garden, eupatorium should be placed in moist soils such as near a body of water or next to a leaky hose spigot. Depending on the species or variety, eupatorium can range in height from 2' to 10' tall. The most popular species is Eupatorium purpureum, which yields most of the commercial cultivars. Eupatorium maculatum is similar except that the stems are spotted.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eMany joe pye weeds are topped during the late summer with heads of smoky pink or mauve flowers, while others have white flowers.
