This neat little sedge was most likely named due to its resemblance to the 60's Beetles mop top haircuts. Carex caryophyllea has a wide native range, from Europe into Southeastern Siberia. Despite it's cold clilmate haunts, it has thrived for us in full, baking sun as long as the soils are reasonably moist. Carex 'The Beatles' makes a dense, very slowly expanding ground cover in the sun garden, with an appearance similar to a dwarf fine textured mondo grass.
