For years, this iris was cultivated by collectors as Iris henryi, but it turned out to be incorrectly identified and was actually an un-named species, hailing from the alkaline soil woodlands of Daba Mountain. Thanks to the work of Darrell Probst, it finally was formally published in 2020 as Iris dabashanensis.
