Ligularia japonica 'Chinese Dragon' has made an outstanding clump in our garden, composed of bold-textured, cutleaf leaves (less serrated than the Japanese form). The cold-resistant foliage emerges for us in mid-February, during hellebore season, oblivious to two more months of cold temperatures. Starting in mid-June (NC), the deciduous clumps are topped with 4' tall sturdy spikes of yellow-orange flowers that result in a midsummer butterfly orgy...binoculars not included. Moist, rich organic soils produce the largest plants.

Watch our Plant Spotlight video for more information.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1527/8799/files/Ligularia-japonica-Chinese-Dragon.i-9018.s-62965.r-1.jpg?v=1791827759
