Klehm 1968) Paeonia 'Raspberry Sundae' has been one of the most floriferous peonies in our trials, each clump producing over two dozen 30\" flowering stems, starting in early May (NC). Each stem is topped with lovely bomb-type flowers composed of a flat layer of pink petals, topped with a dollop of fluffy white...resembling shaved ice cream. As the flowers age, the central white petals gradually turn pink from the top down...very nice! Although the stems are fairly sturdy, the flowers are quite heavy and, in the case of rain during the flowering period, some support is recommended. These are large, multi-eyed, flowering-sized deer-resistant plants.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003ch3\u003eMaintenance:\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003ePaeonia 'Raspberry Sundae' requires virtually no maintenance once planted in the garden. At the end of the season (September), the old stalks can be removed.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eAphids may appear on the flower buds of peonies, but this is usually not a problem unless you use fast-release chemical fertilizers. If you do find them on your peonies, soapy water usually is enough to eliminate the problem.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIf you need to move or divide your peonies, the best time is mid-summer.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003ch3\u003eGrowing Conditions:\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eRaspberry Sundae peony prefers full sun for 6+ hours for best flowering. Although all herbaceous peonies are somewhat drought tolerant, they perform their best in rich soils with even summer moisture. By the end of summer, they have started to go summer dormant, so don't be alarmed by foliage turning yellow, then brown.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003ch3\u003eGarden Value:\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003ePeonies have great value for their bright, over-the-top mid-spring flowers, most of which are quite fragrant.
