panicum-virgatum-cloud-nine
Panicum virgatum Cloud Nine

Panicum 'Cloud 9' is a superb selection of native switchgrass from Maryland's defunct Bluemount Nursery...truly a panicum on steroids! I first saw Panicum 'Cloud Nine' at Longwood Gardens, where visitors were gawking, snapping pictures, and making notes. The strongly growing, 8' tall, vertical clumps of metallic-blue foliage are topped by giant, reddish-brown, cloud-like plumes in late summer through fall. As the flowers fade, their sheer size causes the clump to billow out like an inebriated woman with big hair. I recommend some strong neighbors nearby for support if horizontal space is an issue...at least for the grass. This is one totally awesome...I'm running out of adjectives...INCREDIBLE grass!!!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1527/8799/products/Panicum-virgatum-Cloud-Nine.i-1785.s-16049.r-1_2e4bf0e2-c93e-4127-8e86-d7f63e4cf2fb.jpg?v=1667244646
