Hailing from Bolivia, Peru, and Northern Brazil, taccarum have no business being winter hardy for us in Zone 7b, but after a decade in the ground, they not only return, but thrive and multiply. The underground tubers give rise to 4' tall amorphophallus-like stalks of foliage emerging for us in mid-June. The leaflets are quite a bit wider than most hardy amorphophallus. When the tuber is large enough, the emerging leaf is accompanied by 1' tall flower stalks that resemble the jet trails of a rocket at lift off. We have found that taccarum prefer light filtered shade to a few hours of direct sun to really perform well. We have added a cultivar name to this pass-along clone.

Watch our Plant Spotlight video for more information.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1527/8799/files/Taccarum-caudatum-Eruption.i-13604.s-66403.r-1_d75ef48f-b5b1-4360-baf3-ee5415777069.jpg?v=1790000771
